Update: The Dolphin is, or has, closed. It is going to be replaced by 7 South Bottle + Kitchen, a restaurant that will be focused on American fare and one that will have a craft cocktail and beer menu to match.
The Dolphin has done an excellent job of evolving over the years. Whether the evolutions were well architected, or, purely a result of responding to the times remains unimportant. The Dolphin has expanded and contracted into many different spaces in the South Ave (or is it Washington Street?) building, building out function rooms, a to-go market, and more. For instance, Eli's Breakfast, Burgers & Brews is in the same building, and, if our memory serves us, in one of the spaces previously occupied by the Dolphin ages ago.
These days, the Dolphin boats of a large, welcoming restaurant as well as a classy, yet casual bar that in pre-pandemic times hosted Trivia Nights and served up fancy cocktails.
About
The Dolphin arrived in Natick in the early 90s. This was huge for downtown, as Agostino's was really the only restaurant of record in Natick Center at the time. Sure, there were plenty of [pizza shops in Natick Center](/natick center/), but very few full-service restaurants.
What to order: Sunshine Salmon
With cherry tomatoes and a fire-roasted corn lime salsa, the Sunshine Salmon is an ideal dish for any time of year.
Final thoughts on
It's the best seafood in town. It's also the only dedicated seafood restaurant, since the closing of Naked Fish, which is now Margarita's ... which is technically over the Framingham line, but we're arguing a few feet, and 80s & 90s legend, Seafood & More.
